Google Notebook is all grown up!

After a long slog, our sexy new version of Google Notebook is out. There are still bugs and things missing, but I think this version is a lot more fun than the old one. To celebrate (and hunt for bugs - I found 3 scary ones Sunday morning (you really wouldn't believe the mind-blowing Javascript convolutions involved in this bad boy)), I made a notebook about the bars in New York with dancing (I snuck away from my computer last Saturday night to go to Double Happiness). It demonstrates my pet feature, which I've been wanting to do pretty much since Notebook launched: you can view it on a map. I think this would be especially hot for apartment hunting and such. It's also good for my New York to Try notebook. Anyway, enjoy the new Notebook. Tell your friends. I look forward to interacting with human beings, laundry machines, and restaurants on the weekend again. ;-)

    Much sexier looking. I look forward to giving it a shot. A little freaked there's still no tagging though. Who's into hierarchical categorization these days?

    Congratulations! You have managed to totally screw up a perfectly fine program by forcing your customers to install un-needed and unwanted “upgrades” to your notebook utility. I was extremely happy with the old version, which worked perfectly, and recommended it to everyone I knew. Then your program of forcing us to upgrade to a “newer” version came along and totally ruined this very fine feature on both of my personal computers and on those computers I use at work. I can’t get it to do anything but give me a “loading” message--all day long!

    Way to go! I will be uninstalling this ruined utility as soon as I can figure out how to rescue the information I already have stored on it and will avoid all future Google offerings like the plague.

    @john rickman - are you FOR REAL?! first of all, this upgrade was very much needed, and the new version works 1000 times better than the last. just go ahead and "uninstall" a utility from that is forcing you to look at a "loading"-page the entire day. christ, i can't believe people like you.....

    So I was planning a trip to portland today and totally psyched about the map feature so I could compare hotel locations to the ladies rock camp location. Turns out that since the notebook had been made prior to the existence of the map feature, there was only one address in it.

    Features I want:
    1) Map interaction mode, kinda like map shop, where I can actually browse a set of results and add them by location to my notebook
    2) If someone mentions a place in my notebook but with no address, suggest them as possible map points I can optionally view (in this case, my partner in travel had suggested three hotels but hadn't clipped their addresses)

    But still, map feature so hot! And I'm so impressed that you hacked it up in such a burst of fast inspiration!

    @John Rickman: When Windows 3.1 upgraded to Windows 95, I hated 95 because all my fluent knowlege and workarounds in 3.1 were no longer needed in 95. All the things I liked about 3.1 were tweaked and I had no idea what the benefits of 95 were yet. Please realize that 1) you're talking to a human when you post on this blog and 2) have the wisdom to know that you probably would have hated any change that wasn't pasting on a feature 3) be constructive in your suggestions. I hate this crap isn't useful.

    Hi,
    I've also got the problem with the loading... in the firefox extension
    which must be a recent update of the notebook or firefox. A shame as when it worked it was great.
